<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Driving distractions are a safety concern affecting all drivers. To maintain safety on the road, it’s crucial to understand the types of distractions and how to handle them.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Tesla drivers have many built-in advanced safety features to handle distractions while driving. But all drivers and passengers must maintain awareness and avoid distractions.</p>

<div class="wp-block-ideabox-toc ib-block-toc" data-anchors='h2,h3' data-collapsable='true' data-offset='150' ><div class="ib-toc-container ib-toc-list-style-bullets ib-toc-hierarchical ib-toc-expanded"><div class="ib-toc-header"><div class="ib-toc-header-title">Table of Contents</div><div class="ib-toc-header-right"><span class="ib-toc-icon-collapse"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-up-alt2"></span></span><span class="ib-toc-icon-expand"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-down-alt2"></span></span></div></div><div class="ib-toc-separator" style="height:2px"></div><div class="ib-toc-body"><ul class="ib-toc-anchors"></ul></div></div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Types of Distractions</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The most common distractions that EV drivers may face include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Visual Distractions:</strong> Anything that takes your eyes off the road. Such as checking the touch screen or looking at your phone. These moments with your eyes focused elsewhere can be problematic. You may miss changes in traffic speed, curves in the road, and important road signs.<br></li>

<li><strong>Auditory Distractions:</strong> Sounds that interfere with the ability to hear road cues. Includes anything from loud music to intense rainfall. Being unable to hear sirens, horns, or other noises is hazardous.<br></li>

<li><strong>Manual Distractions:</strong> Actions where you take your hands off the wheel. Such as making adjustments to air conditioning, changing music, or eating food. These increase reaction times and reduce driving control.<br></li>

<li><strong>Cognitive Distractions:</strong> Things that take your mind away from driving. Could be mindless daydreaming or a deep conversation. Even with Tesla’s safety technology, these delay decision-making. They also reduce situational awareness.<br></li>

<li><strong>Environmental Distractions:</strong> Something outside your car that grabs your attention. Anything from large billboards to driving through a beautiful landscape. They lower your attention on the road.<br></li>

<li><strong>Emotional Distractions:</strong> Strong feelings of stress, anger, or excitement. These can impact concentration levels and make it more difficult to drive well.<br></li>

<li><strong>Physical Distractions:</strong> An issue with your physical state. Could be a seat that’s not adjusted or suffering from lack of sleep or illness. You may not be able to have the attention required for driving.</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Impact on Safety</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Distracted driving can impact the driver, passengers, and others on the road. Minor situations may disrupt traffic flow or result in hard braking. But even small distractions can result in serious problems. Driving while distracted can result in major accidents, injuries, and even death.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Technology can be to blame for many distracted driving incidents. As <a href="https://www.ncsl.org/transportation/distracted-driving-cellphone-use" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">portable electronic device</a> use goes up, so does distracted driving. Conversations with passengers are a consistent challenge. So are advertisements around the roadways.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">According to the NHTSA, <a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/risky-driving/distracted-driving" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">distracted driving</a> claimed 3,308 lives in 2022. The CDC says that every day in the United States, nine people are killed in crashes <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/transportationsafety/distracted_driving/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">with distracted drivers</a>. These fatalities make up about <a href="https://www.iihs.org/news/detail/multifaceted-approach-could-help-end-distracted-driving" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">8% of all traffic-related deaths</a> according to the IIHS.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Teens and young drivers are a group prone to distracted driving. One study shows that <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6198653/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">58% of teenage drivers</a> engaged in a distracting task. Many were talking to a passenger, but others were texting/dialing on a cell phone.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Many of these deaths and accidents are preventable. Every driver has a duty to themselves and others to maintain focus. Being alert and attentive can make the difference between life and death. This responsibility still exists even with Tesla&#8217;s features like semi-autonomous driving modes.</p>

<figure class="gb-block-image gb-block-image-0122ca78"><img decoding="async" class="gb-image gb-image-0122ca78" src="https://create.piktochart.com/output/b10be3812827-it-s-a-blank-template" alt=""/></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Tesla’s Safety Features</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Tesla cars have built-in safety features designed to deal with distractions. The car can sound alerts or react for a driver that may be distracted. These features include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Automatic emergency braking</li>

<li>Collision warnings</li>

<li>Blind spot monitoring</li>

<li>Lane departure awareness</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The <a href="https://teslashooters.com/tesla-ap-and-fsd/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tesla Autopilot and Full Self-Driving</a> systems can also prevent distracted driving. It allows for automatic navigation. This reduces the need to manage directions while driving in unfamiliar areas. And you can use traffic-aware cruise control to maintain speed with nearby cars. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Even though the vehicle assists the drivers, there are sensors and cameras to ensure the driver remains active with hands on the wheel.Tesla’s approach to driver assistance strikes a balance between convenience and safety.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Best Practices for Minimizing Distractions</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Tesla owners can avoid distractions by using the car’s features or taking other steps. To reduce driving distractions, Tesla drivers can consider:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Using Voice Commands: Control navigation, climate settings, and music. Keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel.<br></li>

<li>Passenger Discussions: Help passengers understand that interacting with them can be a dangerous distraction. Minimize unnecessary discussions.<br></li>

<li>Learn Your Vehicle: Understand how to use the advanced features. Read the manual and practice in a safe environment before trying on the road.<br></li>

<li>Set Up Before Driving: Adjust your seat and mirrors before starting your journey. Put your destination and line up your music or media before shifting into drive.<br></li>

<li>Limit Electronics Use: Don’t text or use apps while driving. Enable &#8220;Do Not Disturb&#8221; mode to silence notifications. Avoid focusing on the touchscreen system.<br></li>

<li>Avoid Eating and Drinking: Eating or drinking can be a major distraction. If necessary, choose easy-to-handle items that don’t need much attention.<br></li>

<li>Maintain Focus: Recognize when you’re thinking about something other than driving. Learn to limit thoughts so you stay focused on driving.<br></li>

<li>Stay Organized: Reduce visual clutter and potential distractions. Keep things off your dashboard and out of sight. Make sure everything is secure so you don’t have items rolling around while driving.<br></li>

<li>Read Signs, Not Ads: You should be watching the road, reading road signs, and maintaining awareness of your surroundings. Advertisements can distract drivers.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By following these steps, Tesla owners can create a distraction-free driving environment. This will enhance safety and ensure a more enjoyable driving experience.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">State Laws</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Most state laws for distracted driving focus on the use of cell phones. And nearly every state has a law aimed at reducing cell phone distractions behind the wheel.</p>

<p class="has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph">Source: <a href="https://www.iihs.org/topics/distracted-driving/electronic-device-laws" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">IIHS</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The IIHS says 29 states have laws banning people from holding any electronic device. The majority of states have restrictions against writing, sending, or reading on devices. And some prohibit voice calls while holding the phone. It’s also very common for increased restrictions to apply to young or novice drivers.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Driver Responsibility</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The majority of the responsibility for dealing with distractions lies with the driver. They need to make sure they have taken appropriate steps to avoid problems while driving. This includes proper preparation before driving and dealing with distractions on the road.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Every driver must handle distractions and still be able to drive.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Passengers Responsibility</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The other people inside a vehicle share the responsibility to avoid distractions. They may not be able to control the vehicle, but they can take steps to ensure the driver remains focused, such as:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Avoid discussions with the driver as they reduce the driver’s concentration</li>

<li>Don’t ask the driver for help, such as changing the music or climate settings</li>

<li>Be considerate of the driver’s need to remain focused on driving</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Whether it’s seemingly harmless smalltalk or an emotionally-charged conversation, any conversation can pull the driver’s attention away from the road. Physical actions can also be problematic. Avoid large sudden movements or sounds.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Passengers who call for the driver’s attention in any way can create problems. Any distraction adds a risk to everyone on the road, both passengers and drivers.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Our Verdict</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Every driver will deal with distractions. These may be minor visual ones or more problematic ones that hog your attention.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It’s every driver and passenger’s responsibility to reduce driving distractions. This ensures you can prevent accidents and have a positive driving experience. Stay informed about local driving laws. And understand your Tesla’s features to address the evolving challenges.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When your Model Y windshield is chipped, cracked, or damaged in any way, fixing it must be a priority. You might be able to avoid replacement by having the damaged area repaired. But quite often, a full windshield replacement is necessary. After reading this, you’ll have everything you need to handle a Tesla Model Y windshield replacement.</p>

<div class="wp-block-ideabox-toc ib-block-toc" data-anchors='h2,h3' data-collapsable='true' data-offset='150' ><div class="ib-toc-container ib-toc-list-style-bullets ib-toc-hierarchical ib-toc-expanded"><div class="ib-toc-header"><div class="ib-toc-header-title">Table of Contents</div><div class="ib-toc-header-right"><span class="ib-toc-icon-collapse"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-up-alt2"></span></span><span class="ib-toc-icon-expand"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-down-alt2"></span></span></div></div><div class="ib-toc-separator" style="height:2px"></div><div class="ib-toc-body"><ul class="ib-toc-anchors"></ul></div></div></div>

<div style="height:15px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What Situation Should Change to a New Windshield Replacement?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are 3 situations that require glass replacement or repair. These include small rock chips, long cracks, and damage caused by accidents.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here is a brief breakdown of each windshield damage situation and the problems they present:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Rock chips: A common problem caused when small stones or gravel hits your windshield. Small chips can expand into large cracks.</li>

<li>Cracks: Caused by impacts or an expanding chip. They can compromise the integrity of the glass and impair visibility. They are likely to grow larger with time, especially with temperature changes.</li>

<li>Accidents: Anything from a small fender-bender to a big collision can cause windshield damage. It ranges from obvious shattering to subtle fractures.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">With certain small chips or cracks, you might be able to repair the specific area without replacing the windshield. But there are specific <a href="https://service.tesla.com/docs/ModelY/ServiceManual/en-us/GUID-8BA14DB8-F254-4DBD-B8D3-2117D36765D5.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">Tesla Model Y guidelines for windshield repair</a> and replacement. You cannot make repairs in certain areas of the windshield, including:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>The outer edges of the windshield</li>

<li>The camera field of view</li>

<li>The passenger side</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If your damage is in these areas, you must have your Tesla Model Y windshield replaced. You also must have it replaced if the damage is in other areas and is too large for repair, 25 to 50 mm.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What Happens if You Don’t Change Tesla’s Damaged Windshield?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If your Tesla’s windshield gets damaged, you may need it replaced. In some cases, a windshield repair is possible. Both of these are not cosmetic repairs but critical safety measures.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Driving with a compromised windshield is a safety hazard. A small chip or crack can turn into a large crack. It can endanger you and your passengers.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Windshield damage may prevent you from being able to see the road well. And it can cause issues with the Model Y’s windshield structural integrity. If the windshield fails while driving, you could have major problems.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">OEM vs. Aftermarket Windshields for Model Y</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/tesla-service.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2636" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/tesla-service.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/tesla-service-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/tesla-service-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/tesla-service-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You have two options for Model Y windshield replacement. You can get an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) windshield or an aftermarket windshield.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The pros of OEM Windshields include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Guaranteed fit: Made for Tesla vehicles, ensuring original look and function.</li>

<li>High quality: These windshields meet Tesla&#8217;s rigorous standards, providing durability and optimal performance.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The cons of choosing OEM Windshields are:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Higher cost: OEM parts may have a higher price than aftermarket options.</li>

<li>Availability: Some windshield suppliers or replacement services may not supply OEM Tesla windshields.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For something as critical as the windshield, using Tesla-approved replacement parts is best. If you don’t, it could cause problems with your car’s systems, including the autopilot sensors and cameras. There can also be fitment issues, leading to leaks or a lack of durability found in the OEM windshields.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Cost To Replace a Tesla Y Windshield</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The average cost for a Tesla Model Y windshield replacement is between $1,200 to $1,700. Many people pay close to $1,400.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The official Tesla after-sales repair service is usually within this average cost. The prices of other stores fluctuate more. Rare cases offer lower prices of $1,200 or very high prices over $2,000.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The exact price you’ll pay depends on:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>The windshield selected and its availability: Usually around $1,000 to $1,300</li>

<li>Labor costs in your area: Typically around $200 to $400 (about 2-3 hours)</li>

<li>The demand for the replacement service: Companies may charge more if they are very busy or the windshield is hard to find</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Getting the OEM replacement from Tesla is usually the preferred way to go. And since it’s around the same price, there’s no reason to go with third-party services.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some insurance policies offer windshield coverage. They may or may not have a special deductible only for windshield replacement. Since the Model Y windshield is expensive, having windshield coverage is a good idea. The only problem is that some insurance companies won’t work with Tesla service centers. You may have to pay it out of pocket and then submit an insurance claim for reimbursement.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Steps Involved in Model Y Windshield Replacement</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A Model Y windshield replacement usually takes around 2-4 hours to complete. Some service centers might request you leave the car for the day. This lets them do the work when it fits their schedule and may leave time for the sealant to cure.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here’s an overview of the typical Tesla windshield replacement process:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Removal: Get rid of the existing seal and glass without damaging sensors or cameras. Clean the mounting surface for the new windshield.</li>

<li>Install new windshield: The new windshield is set into place and secured.</li>

<li>Seal, trim, and check: The final touches of the windshield installation to ensure no air or water leaks.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Due to Tesla’s windshield sensors and cameras, recalibration is necessary. This ensures that features like autopilot and safety systems operate.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It’s preferred to have Tesla service centers perform the recalibration. Some other windshield professionals can recalibrate Tesla systems. But their level of expertise might be questionable.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Maintenance Tips To Prevent Future Windshield Damage</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To keep your windshield looking great, follow these maintenance tips:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Keep distance driving behind others: Helps stay away from rocks and gravel thrown up.</li>

<li>Get small chips or cracks repaired: Stop small problems from spreading.</li>

<li>Avoid sudden temperature changes: Glass doesn’t handle rapid temperature changes well. Be careful during extreme cold or heat. Never pour hot water on a cold windshield.</li>

<li>Use high-quality parts and service: This helps ensure a long-lasting replacement without problems.</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Our Verdict</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Windshield damage isn’t just a blemish on the skin of your car. It&#8217;s an integral part that needs to be treated as a priority. When problems arise, it deserves your attention. A cracked, chipped, or damaged Model Y windshield must be replaced to ensure visibility and safety.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If your Tesla&#8217;s back door can&#8217;t open, it may be caused by many different settings and even some physical issues. I&#8217;ve been there and know it&#8217;s not a good feeling when a doorcan&#8217;t open. But I&#8217;ve also done the research and am ready to share expert tips so you can get your door working again.</p>

<div class="wp-block-ideabox-toc ib-block-toc" data-anchors='h2,h3' data-collapsable='true' data-offset='150' ><div class="ib-toc-container ib-toc-list-style-bullets ib-toc-hierarchical ib-toc-expanded"><div class="ib-toc-header"><div class="ib-toc-header-title">Table of Contents</div><div class="ib-toc-header-right"><span class="ib-toc-icon-collapse"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-up-alt2"></span></span><span class="ib-toc-icon-expand"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-down-alt2"></span></span></div></div><div class="ib-toc-separator" style="height:2px"></div><div class="ib-toc-body"><ul class="ib-toc-anchors"></ul></div></div></div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Check Child Lock Settings</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you have the Child Lock setting enabled, the rear doors will not open from the inside with the buttons. This is a safety feature. It stops children from opening the door in a dangerous situation, such as while driving or in traffic. But it will stop anyone from opening the door from the inside.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here&#8217;s how to check your Tesla Child Lock settings:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Check-Tesla-Child-Lock-Settings.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2500" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Check-Tesla-Child-Lock-Settings.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Check-Tesla-Child-Lock-Settings-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Check-Tesla-Child-Lock-Settings-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Check-Tesla-Child-Lock-Settings-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li>On the touchscreen, select Controls then Locks</li>

<li>There is a Child Lock bar next to the Windows Lock&nbsp;</li>

<li>Select it to turn it on or off</li>
</ol>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">With Child Lock enabled you should still be able to open the doors from the exterior. If you cannot, then your issue is likely caused by something else.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Driver Door Unlock Mode by Accident</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another setting that stops the back doors from opening is Driver Door Unlock Mode. When this feature is on, only the driver&#8217;s door can open from the outside when it is first unlocked. The rear doors will not unlock with the driver&#8217;s door.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can then open the rest of the doors by pressing the key fob again or through the interior touchscreen. This is another safety feature. It is useful for people who are worried about someone else opening other doors as they enter the vehicle.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To turn the Drive Door Unlock Mode on or off, follow these steps:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/set-Drive-Door-Unlock-Mode.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2621" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/set-Drive-Door-Unlock-Mode.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/set-Drive-Door-Unlock-Mode-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/set-Drive-Door-Unlock-Mode-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/set-Drive-Door-Unlock-Mode-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li>On your touchscreen, go to Controls, then Locks</li>

<li>Scroll to find Driver Door Unlock Mode&nbsp;</li>

<li>Press to toggle the setting on or off</li>
</ol>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Voice Command “Unlock Back Door”</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another way you can try to get your Tesla back doors open is through the voice command. There are many different <a href="https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/model3/en_us/GUID-EA1715B0-A3A6-454E-995A-8AA2C3A32D44.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">Tesla voice commands</a>, and one is the ability to lock and unlock the doors.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To use a voice command, press and release the scroll wheel on the right side of your steering wheel. You’ll then hear a chime. You can then say “unlock doors” and it should unlock all the doors.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Temporary Pickup</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Since the vehicle locks automatically while driving, it is not possible to open the doors from the outside unless you manually unlock them. This is a safety feature that makes sure your car is secure while you&#8217;re driving. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When you stop temporarily to pick someone up, remember to unlock the door from the touchscreen so they can get in.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Hard Reset the Tesla</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Like many electrical devices, sometimes resetting your Tesla’s computer will fix the issue. This simple off-and-on can resolve many software-related issues. This is easy to do and you don&#8217;t need any tools.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Follow this procedure to reset the Tesla&#8217;s computer:</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">1. Park the vehicle</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">2. Press and hold both scrolling buttons on the steering wheel, and keep them pressed in for 10 seconds</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/press-and-hold-the-scroll-wheels-that-control-the-screen.jpg" alt="hard reset Tesla" class="wp-image-710" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/press-and-hold-the-scroll-wheels-that-control-the-screen.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/press-and-hold-the-scroll-wheels-that-control-the-screen-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/press-and-hold-the-scroll-wheels-that-control-the-screen-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/press-and-hold-the-scroll-wheels-that-control-the-screen-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">3. Your screens will turn off, which means the system is rebooting</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">4. It should be back up and running in 10 to 30 seconds</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Manual Release for Rear Doors</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In some Tesla vehicles, you can manually release the rear doors from the inside. This is a great procedure to know even if you don&#8217;t have issues. This will be helpful in the event of any faults with the electrical door mechanism or if your Tesla battery runs out. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To open your rear doors manually, follow the procedure for your Tesla model:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Model Y: In the door&#8217;s pocket, lift the rubber mat to reveal a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PbRBbIGnv4">small removable cover</a>. Lift the cover by using the red button or a screwdriver (depending on the year), then pull on the foam piece attached to the wire.</li>
</ul>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Model 3: The Tesla Model 3 <a href="https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/model3/en_au/GUID-7A32EC01-A17E-42CC-A15B-2E0A39FD07AB.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">cannot manually open</a> the rear doors from the inside. This YouTube video reviews the implications of that decision.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Why Rear Doors Can’t Be Manually Opened On Your Tesla Model 3" width="870" height="489" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Cfk8Erx8Wiw?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Model S: There is a <a href="https://www.tesla.cn/ownersmanual/models/en_us/GUID-7A32EC01-A17E-42CC-A15B-2E0A39FD07AB.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">manual release cable</a> behind the carpet below the rear seats. Pull back the carpet then find the cable and pull it toward the center of the vehicle to open the rear door.</li>

<li>Model X: Remove the speaker cover on the door. Pull the release cable down and to the front of the vehicle. Manually lift the door, which will require some force.</li>
</ul>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="How to open Tesla Model X doors manually during an emergency" width="870" height="489" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/cfPhUY9erLM?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Check the Rear Door for Rust and Fix It</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One thing that can cause a Tesla&#8217;s back door to not open is a rusty component, especially the striker plate. This is the small metal loop in the door jamb. The door latches onto the striker plate. If it is rusty or corroded, the latch may malfunction.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To fix this, you will need access to the door jamb so the door must be opened. Try to first open your door from the outside with the handle. If that doesn’t work, you can try the interior manual release which we reviewed above.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Once you have the door open, inspect the metal striker plate on the door jamb. Does it have corrosion or rust?&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If so, see if you can clean it off with a vinegar and water solution. A rust removal product or even fine-grit sandpaper may help. But it can harm paint so use caution and tape off the painted areas if you need to do this.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Add a lubricant after cleaning it with anything to ensure proper function. A lithium or silicone lubricant is ideal.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you still can&#8217;t get the rust off, then it&#8217;s worth replacing the striker plate. You can order the part and do it yourself. But it might be easier to have a professional do it as getting the alignment correct can be tricky on some Tesla cars.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Alignment Issues</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In rare cases, the rear doors won&#8217;t open because of alignment issues. This may happen due to repairs after an accident or another physical alteration.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is possible to fix an alignment issue yourself. The procedure involves loosening the bolts holding the door in place. And then using a pry bar or an extra set of hands to make the necessary adjustment. Once the door is where it needs to be, retighten the bolts and hopefully your door will open and close.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This process is much easier said than done. And in many cases, if you&#8217;ve gone through all the above steps but the rear doors of your Tesla still won&#8217;t open, then calling for a professional is a great idea. Make an appointment with a Tesla mobile technician or repair shop to get the help you need.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Our Verdict</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If your Tesla back door won&#8217;t open, it can be a frustrating and concerning situation. To fix it, try to follow the above steps. If you end up not being able to open it, you can have it tested at a repair center. Since this is a critical function, making an appointment with a Tesla repair technician may be needed.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When the temperatures drop and snow blankets the roadways, preparation is vital. The freezing temperatures and slick conditions can be a recipe for disaster. Follow these winter driving safety tips to make sure you arrive without incident.</p>

<div class="wp-block-ideabox-toc ib-block-toc" data-anchors='h2,h3' data-collapsable='true' data-offset='150' ><div class="ib-toc-container ib-toc-list-style-bullets ib-toc-hierarchical ib-toc-expanded"><div class="ib-toc-header"><div class="ib-toc-header-title">Table of Contents</div><div class="ib-toc-header-right"><span class="ib-toc-icon-collapse"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-up-alt2"></span></span><span class="ib-toc-icon-expand"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-down-alt2"></span></span></div></div><div class="ib-toc-separator" style="height:2px"></div><div class="ib-toc-body"><ul class="ib-toc-anchors"></ul></div></div></div>

<div style="height:15px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Basic Safety Guidelines</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the best ways to avoid problems is to practice safe winter driving. By making these winter driving safety tips part of your routine, you’ll stay on the road and out of trouble.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">1. Wear Seat Belts</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Car safety always starts with wearing seat belts. It&#8217;s the law and <a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/seat-belts/seat-belts-save-lives" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">according to the NHTSA</a>, it cuts your chance of fatal injury nearly in half. Don&#8217;t overlook this simple step and always make sure you&#8217;re buckled in.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">2. Drive at Reduced Speeds</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To drive safely in winter, take things a little slower. By reducing your speed, you can stop quicker, turn more easily, and deal with the unpredictable situations that come your way.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">3. Avoid Distractions</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Although it can seem mundane, driving a car is a major responsibility. Give your full attention while driving, especially in winter.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Keep your phone out of your hands and avoid other distractions. Mere seconds can be the difference between a smooth drive and an unfortunate incident.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">4. Leave Enough Space To Avoid Rear-End Collisions</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Following cars too closely is a quick way to find trouble. Winter driving makes it even more risky.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Leave sufficient space between yourself and the car in front of you. It allows you to see better down the road and gives you time to stop if an emergency comes up.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">5. Don&#8217;t Crowd the Plow</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Driving-behind-a-snowplow.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2538" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Driving-behind-a-snowplow.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Driving-behind-a-snowplow-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Driving-behind-a-snowplow-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Driving-behind-a-snowplow-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The snowplows have a big job to do and they need space to do it. Leave plenty of room between yourself and any plow so they can maneuver freely to complete their job.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Also, a snowplow operator&#8217;s field of vision is restricted. Even if you can see them, they may not be able to see you.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">6. Avoid Using Cruise Control on Snow and Ice</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Cruise control can be great for long road trips. But when snow and ice are on the roads, you don&#8217;t want to use it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Instead, keep acceleration and braking under your control. Your reaction times will be faster and you can avoid speeding up when you shouldn’t.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">7. Watch Out for Black Ice</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the most dangerous winter driving conditions is black ice. This transparent layer of ice can be extremely slick. Even the best four-wheel drive cars and winter tires can slide when black ice forms.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">8. When Turning, Turn the Steering Wheel in Advance and Do Not Brake</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the most important winter driving safety tips is to take turns much more cautiously. They can be prone to icing over and present more risk than straight roads.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Approach each turn with less speed than usual and start your turn a little earlier. Never apply the brakes while turning as that is a surefire way to lose traction. Get to the right speed before you start turning and gently glide through it.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">9. Exercise Caution at Intersections, Ramps, Bridges, and Shaded Areas</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Any place where cars meet from different directions or speeds can be full of hazards. As can narrow bridges or difficult lighting in shaded spots.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Winter driving conditions make each of these situations a little worse. Approach these hazardous areas with less speed and more awareness when driving in winter.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">10. Obey All Road Signs</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/notice-All-Road-Signs.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2539" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/notice-All-Road-Signs.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/notice-All-Road-Signs-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/notice-All-Road-Signs-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/notice-All-Road-Signs-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Pay attention to road signs. They&#8217;ll let you know when curves and other obstacles are ahead. In many cases, you&#8217;ll want to drive slower than the speed limit or suggested speed if the roads are snow-covered or icy.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">11. Avoid Fatigue</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Driving while drowsy is dangerous. <a href="https://archive.cdc.gov/www_cdc_gov/niosh/emres/longhourstraining/impaired.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">According to the CDC</a>, being awake for 24 hours is like having a BAC of 0.10%, above the legal limit in the U.S. Before you drive in the winter, get an adequate amount of rest.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Driving on slick roads requires more attention and skill. Don&#8217;t push yourself too hard for too long either.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Dealing With Car Trouble In Winter</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Any time your car breaks down can be difficult to deal with. But in cold weather, the risks are even greater.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">1. Pull Off the Road and Activate Hazard Lights</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Your first task is to get out of the way and activate your hazard lights. Get off the road and into a safe area away from moving traffic whenever possible.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you must use the shoulder, try to get as far off the road as possible. Choose a spot where cars can see you as they approach.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">2. Set Up Flares for Visibility</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/setting-reflection-triangle-inside.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2540" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/setting-reflection-triangle-inside.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/setting-reflection-triangle-inside-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/setting-reflection-triangle-inside-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/setting-reflection-triangle-inside-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A good emergency roadside kit will have flares and a reflection triangle inside. Use these when stuck on the road in winter. Not only will they help others avoid a collision, but they also let others know you may need help.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">3. Stay With the Vehicle</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It can be tempting to wander out for help. But in most situations, you&#8217;re better off staying with your car. It provides shelter and if you have some emergency supplies, you can get through a winter storm much easier than walking.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">4. Avoid Disorientation During Storms</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you find yourself in a snowy storm, whiteout conditions may occur. These may prevent visibility and it is very easy to get disoriented. If you can, pull off the road and wait out the storm before heading on your way.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">5. Make Sure the Exhaust Pipe Isn&#8217;t Clogged With Snow, Ice, or Mud</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Snow-covered-cars-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2543" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Snow-covered-cars-1.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Snow-covered-cars-1-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Snow-covered-cars-1-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Snow-covered-cars-1-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You may need to run your car for warmth while stuck in the winter. Trapped exhaust gasses can be deadly. Whenever you need to run your vehicle, make sure the exhaust can escape the pipe and get away from your car.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is a major advantage for new energy vehicles. EVs don&#8217;t have to worry about exhaust problems.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">6. Await Assistance Safely</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Once you find a safe place to park, call for help and wait in your vehicle. Use your road flares and other emergency indicators to signal you need assistance.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Winter-Ready: Essential Car Preparations</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One part of winter driving safety you don&#8217;t want to forget is preparing before you head out.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">1. Wiper Inspection and Replacement</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Your wipers will need to clear snow, sleet, and filthy winter road grime. They need to be in good shape so you can see where you&#8217;re going. Inspect and replace your worn-out wipers.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Winter wiper blades can be well worth the cost. The blade design prevents ice and snow accumulation. As a result, they have much better performance in winter conditions.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">2. Headlight Maintenance</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Clean your headlight covers to make sure they provide optimal output. Seeing what&#8217;s ahead is vital during challenging winter driving.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If your headlights are cloudy after cleaning them, a headlight restoration kit can restore the clarity.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">3. Tire Inspection and Replacement</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Vehicle Maintenance 101 = TYRE CHECKS" width="870" height="489" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/pa32aqkOzgc?start=9&#038;feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Don&#8217;t forget to inspect your tires. To see if your tires have sufficient tread left, do the <a href="https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/safety/resources/tire-safety-tips" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">penny test</a>:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Find the lowest tread point on your tires</li>

<li>Stick a penny into the groove with Lincoln&#8217;s head pointed toward the tire</li>

<li>If you can see all of Lincoln&#8217;s head, your tires should be replaced</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Winter tires are another great way to improve handling on snowy or icy roads. They&#8217;re made with softer materials and have specialized designs to provide better winter performance.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">4. Battery, Charging System, Fuel Tank Condition</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Cold weather puts more stress on your battery and electrical system. It&#8217;s also when small amounts of water or other contaminants in your fuel tank can cause problems.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Check your electrical system by having your alternator tested and checking the date of your battery. Use water-removing additives in your fuel to avoid issues.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">5. Winter Servicing</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Make sure your vehicle is using the right fluids for the cold temperatures. And check them often to make sure they&#8217;re at the appropriate level. These include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><a href="https://teslashooters.com/windshield-wiper-fluid/">Windshield washer fluid</a></li>

<li>Antifreeze or <a href="https://teslashooters.com/tesla-coolant-guide/">coolant</a></li>

<li>Brake fluid</li>

<li>Engine oil (may need different viscosity oil)&nbsp;</li>

<li>Diesel fuel (if applicable)</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Winter Tips and Essentials for Road Trip</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are plenty of reasons to take a road trip in winter. But before you hit the open road, you may want to adjust a few items.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">1. Limit Travel During Inclement Weather</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You may need to deal with delays caused by poor weather. Rather than trying to drive in blizzard conditions, take a break and wait for it to pass. Road closures can be a harsh reality as well.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">2. Plan Your Route: Allow Plenty of Time</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Making good time is a common goal for road trips. But winter driving means slowing down and dealing with other challenges. Add some extra buffer time to deal with slower driving, more stops, and added safety precautions.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">3. Check Weather Forecasts and Inform Others of Travel Plans if Necessary</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Keep an eye on the upcoming weather before you hit the road. Conditions can change rapidly in mountainous areas with little warning.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And before you hit the road, let a friend or family member know your plans. It may help to turn on location-sharing services so they can follow your progress.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">4. Consider Using Public Transportation</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If possible, consider using public transportation. It takes the pressure off your shoulders and you can comfortably relax while heading to your destination.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">5. Emergency Kit Preparation</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Emergency-Kit-Preparation.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2541" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Emergency-Kit-Preparation.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Emergency-Kit-Preparation-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Emergency-Kit-Preparation-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Emergency-Kit-Preparation-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">An emergency kit should be part of every vehicle&#8217;s cargo at all times. During winter driving, this kit becomes even more crucial. A good emergency kit should include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>First aid supplies</li>

<li>Road flares and reflection triangles or cones</li>

<li>Tire change equipment</li>

<li>Water and high-calorie foods</li>

<li>Blankets and warm clothing to get through overnight stays</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Our Verdict</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Driving in winter ramps up the risk. By driving with a little more caution, knowing when to pull over, and making sure your car is prepared for what&#8217;s ahead, you can deal with the snowy and icy roads.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Getting behind the wheel for the first time is a big deal for teenagers, but it&#8217;s not so for all.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That&#8217;s why it&#8217;s key to have good anxiety and stress management strategies for teenage drivers.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It can bring up feelings of worry and nervousness. With a quarter of teens facing <a href="https://www.aafp.org/pubs/afp/issues/2022/1200/anxiety-disorders-children-adolescents.html#afp20221200p657-b3" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">anxiety issues</a>, driving can really turn up the pressure.</p>

<div class="wp-block-ideabox-toc ib-block-toc" data-anchors='h2,h3' data-collapsable='true' data-offset='150' ><div class="ib-toc-container ib-toc-list-style-bullets ib-toc-hierarchical ib-toc-expanded"><div class="ib-toc-header"><div class="ib-toc-header-title">Table of Contents</div><div class="ib-toc-header-right"><span class="ib-toc-icon-collapse"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-up-alt2"></span></span><span class="ib-toc-icon-expand"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-down-alt2"></span></span></div></div><div class="ib-toc-separator" style="height:2px"></div><div class="ib-toc-body"><ul class="ib-toc-anchors"></ul></div></div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Signs of Teen Driver Anxiety and Stress</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Teen driver stress can show up as increased irritability or worries. Some adolescents will seem wound up before or while driving. This may be a result of unresolved anxiety and stress.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Certain teenage drivers may <a href="https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/anxiety-disorders/anxiety-and-stress-in-teens#:~:text=Symptoms%20can%20include%20worries%2C%20feeling,%2C%20headaches%2C%20stomachaches%20and%20pain." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">experience difficulty concentrating</a>. This can be a big problem while behind the wheel. As the mind floods with worry, focusing on the task at hand becomes much more difficult.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Other signs can reach beyond the mind. It may cause muscle tension, stomachaches, or sleep problems. Stress and anxiety can show up in many parts of the body.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Some Tips for Teens With Driving Anxiety and Stress</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Use these anxiety and stress management techniques while driving for teenagers.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Coping With Driving Anxiety or Stress</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">An important starting point is to understand anxiety and its triggers. Then you can deal with it as needed.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">According to <a href="https://magazine.medlineplus.gov/article/teens-and-stress-when-its-more-than-worry" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">Krystal Lewis, Ph.D</a><a href="https://magazine.medlineplus.gov/article/teens-and-stress-when-its-more-than-worry">.</a>, stress is the body&#8217;s normal and healthy reaction to danger. But anxiety is different. It is a response to stress without a stressor. Many times, anxiety comes from fear of uncertain future events. This turns a stress response into a poor use of mental resources.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Look for times when stress shifts to unhelpful anxiety. By being able to see this change, you can start to tackle the problem.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Driving comes with many natural concerns. But there’s a reasonable limit for the worries floating around in a driver’s mind. When at an acceptable level, the driver remains focused. They can drive as needed to avoid problems.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If the worries about what may happen overwhelm the driver, that&#8217;s an issue. The mind fills with what-if scenarios. They lose focus on driving. Instead, they&#8217;ll think about stressful situations that don&#8217;t even exist.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Adjusting Driving Environment</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Adjusting-Driving-Environment.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2527" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Adjusting-Driving-Environment.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Adjusting-Driving-Environment-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Adjusting-Driving-Environment-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Adjusting-Driving-Environment-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Any driver, including teenagers, should change their driving environment to match their needs. Before hitting the road, take a moment to position the seat. You should be able to reach the steering wheel, pedals, and necessary controls. Adjust the mirrors as well.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Also, try rolling down your window. Flowing <a href="https://www.healthline.com/health/anxiety/panic-attack-while-driving#tips" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">air on your face</a> can help reduce symptoms of anxiety, bringing in a calm feeling.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Taking the time to create a comfortable driving situation is well worth it. You can focus on driving rather than feeling stressed about not being able to reach or see something.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Mindful Driving Practices</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">According to Harvard experts, deep breathing can <a href="https://www.health.harvard.edu/mind-and-mood/relaxation-techniques-breath-control-helps-quell-errant-stress-response" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">slow your heartbeat</a>. It also stabilizes blood pressure.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To manage stress for teenage drivers, try to:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Breathe in slowly through your nose</li>

<li>Allow your belly to expand as air rushes in</li>

<li>Exhale through your mouth</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Adding relaxing music can help create a great environment for mindful driving. Some people also find calming scents beneficial. Think about what brings you to a peaceful state and use that in your car.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Time Management and Consideration</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Research shows that poor scheduling can <a href="https://extension.uga.edu/publications/detail.html?number=C1042&amp;title=time-management-10-strategies-for-better-time-management" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">increase stress</a>. To decrease driving risk and anxiety, remove these concerns. Instead of trying to arrive on time, aim to arrive a little early. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By creating this buffer of extra time, you will reduce some stress while behind the wheel.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Even if the traffic is worse than expected, you won&#8217;t feel stressed out. You don&#8217;t need to think about the problems that may happen from showing up late. You&#8217;ll remain focused on driving because you have time to spare.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can also avoid driving altogether when it is unnecessary. No matter how calm we are, driving involves some level of stress. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you have a bad commute filled with traffic-filled roads, consider taking a train or bus. For short trips, it may be better to keep your car parked and go for a walk. You&#8217;ll get some exercise and breathe fresh air instead of worrying about parking.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Safety Measures</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Driving a vehicle is a serious action. You can&#8217;t depend on your car&#8217;s safety devices alone to protect you. Instead, use safety measures of your own to avoid extra risk.</p>

<figure class="gb-block-image gb-block-image-01450a33"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" class="gb-image gb-image-01450a33" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Safety-Measures.jpg" alt="" title="Safety-Measures" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Safety-Measures.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Safety-Measures-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Safety-Measures-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Safety-Measures-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><br>The NHTSA says that over <a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/risky-driving/distracted-driving" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">3,500 people lose their lives</a> due to distracted driving, including phone use. One text message can take your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. This is the same as driving the length of a football field with a blindfold on.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Before putting the car in park, remove this distraction by switching your phone off. Give your full attention to the road.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you need to use it, pull over in a safe place. Your focus can shift from the road to your phone, while parked. Then when ready to put your phone down, shift back into drive and continue on your journey. There&#8217;s nothing on your phone that worth risking your life while driving.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Drowsy driving is another dangerous situation. The CDC says that <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/sleep/features/drowsy-driving.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">over 90,000 crashes</a> involve a drowsy driver. Teen and young adult drivers are one of the highest risk categories.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Developing good sleep habits is a necessary part of safe driving. Experts estimate that most teenagers need <a href="https://www.bcm.edu/news/the-importance-of-sleep-during-the-teen-years" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">8 to 10 hours of sleep</a> each night. It&#8217;s also crucial to avoid driving while on medications that make you sleepy or impaired. And of course, driving while under the influence is a terrible idea.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Positive Self-Talk for Emotional Regulation</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the best ways to regulate your emotions is the feedback loop within your mind. Negative thoughts can cause extra stress. Turn this around with positivity.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Walden University lays out this method for using <a href="https://www.waldenu.edu/online-bachelors-programs/bs-in-psychology/resource/how-positive-self-talk-can-make-you-feel-better-and-be-more-productive" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">positive self-talk</a>:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Define self-talk: An inner chatter that combines thoughts with other beliefs. It can increase confidence. Many humans are prone to harmful negative self-talk.</li>

<li>Reverse negative trends: Pay attention to your self-talk. Reverse negativity. Every small change in the right direction helps.&nbsp;</li>

<li>Adjust perspective: Refer to yourself in the second or third person, such as you, he, or she. This can help to change your thoughts and treat yourself better. It can even reduce shame and stop you from thinking back on past mistakes too much.</li>

<li>Enjoy the benefits: Use positive self-talk to lower stress. It can cause a serious improvement in mental health. And it may allow you to handle stress better, such as while driving a car.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It may seem small, but the way that you speak to yourself is crucial. Not only will it impact your anxiety while driving, it can change your health.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It&#8217;s normal for new drivers to make mistakes and face stressful situations. When that happens, it&#8217;s important to avoid a negative reaction. Learning is important. Having too many concerns over a past event is not helpful.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Instead, learning how to avoid repeating problems through positive self-talk. Saying things like, &#8220;I can brake earlier next time&#8221;, instead of, &#8220;I am a bad driver for slamming on the brakes so hard&#8221;.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Seeking Professional Help</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Professionals can unlock ways to manage stress and anxiety caused by driving. Trained people can help you understand conditions and identify triggers. And they can provide you with ways to get over any problems.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can always start by talking about it with your primary care physician. But bringing in a specialist usually has the best results.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are programs dedicated to adolescent mood disorders, including anxiety-related ones. Finding local organizations or professionals is key to managing anxiety in teenagers. This allows them to gain the confidence needed to drive.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For example, the <a href="https://www.chop.edu/centers-programs/child-and-adolescent-mood-program-champ" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">Child and Adolescent Mood Program</a> treats anxiety disorders. The <a href="https://healthcare.utah.edu/hmhi/treatments/children-teen" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">Huntsman Mental Health Institute</a> offers child and teen services. The programs and many others can help resolve anxiety caused by driving.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Autopilot</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sometimes technology can provide many benefits. Tesla&#8217;s Autopilot is a big step forward that takes a lot of pressure off any driver. In the same way seatbelts and airbags add confidence, autopilot does the same. Its ability to assist in certain driving situations removes stress from your mind.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Although the driver still needs to be alert, the car can take over and drive itself in many situations.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These features use many sensors and cameras to see the road. This allows the vehicle to take over the controls and provide many helpful actions. These include everything from emergency braking to smart parking capabilities.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By incorporating these features, teenage drivers have fewer things to worry about. They&#8217;ll have more confidence behind the wheel and can avoid anxiety.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Our Verdict</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In the early years of driving, teenagers may feel a high level of anxiety caused by driving. These stress management strategies can help overcome new challenges. They&#8217;ll provide the foundation for anxiety-free driving.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can also keep stress down by avoiding bad traffic and congested routes. Read more about how <a href="https://teslashooters.com/tesla-premium-connectivity/">Tesla Premium Connectivity</a> makes your day easier.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Tesla has made adjust and fold your exterior mirrors very easy. As with most of their tech features, you can adjust the positions via the touch screen or scroll button on the wheel.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In our simple guide below, we will take you through the steps for adjusting your side mirrors on all models as well as the rearview and how to fold.</p>

<div class="wp-block-ideabox-toc ib-block-toc" data-anchors='h2' data-collapsable='true' data-offset='150' ><div class="ib-toc-container ib-toc-list-style-bullets ib-toc-hierarchical ib-toc-expanded"><div class="ib-toc-header"><div class="ib-toc-header-title">Table of Contents</div><div class="ib-toc-header-right"><span class="ib-toc-icon-collapse"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-up-alt2"></span></span><span class="ib-toc-icon-expand"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-down-alt2"></span></span></div></div><div class="ib-toc-separator" style="height:2px"></div><div class="ib-toc-body"><ul class="ib-toc-anchors"></ul></div></div></div>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How Do You Adjust The Side Mirrors On Your Tesla?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Adjusting the side mirrors on your Tesla is simple but how you do it varies between the models.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How To Adjust The Mirrors On Tesla Model 3 &amp; Y&nbsp;</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For the Tesla Model 3 &amp; Y, you can adjust your mirrors by going to your touch screen, tapping controls, quick controls the mirrors.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/How-To-Adjust-The-Mirrors-On-Tesla-Model-Y.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2494" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/How-To-Adjust-The-Mirrors-On-Tesla-Model-Y.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/How-To-Adjust-The-Mirrors-On-Tesla-Model-Y-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/How-To-Adjust-The-Mirrors-On-Tesla-Model-Y-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/How-To-Adjust-The-Mirrors-On-Tesla-Model-Y-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Choose which mirror you want to adjust by clicking left or right. Then use the left scroll button on your wheel to move the mirror. To move the side mirrors up/down, move the scroll button up/down. Then move it inwards or outwards to move them left or right.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You will also find that the driver&#8217;s side mirror automatically dims at night when driving to stop the glare of headlights. To turn this off/on go into controls, mirrors, and select auto dim. This doesn&#8217;t work when you are reversing.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How To Adjust The Mirrors On Tesla Model S &amp; X</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The 2020 Tesla Model S allows you to adjust their mirrors by pressing the buttons located on the driver&#8217;s door.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Tesla Model S - How to adjust Sideview mirrors" width="870" height="489" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9pF-ieDeOmU?start=14&#038;feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To adjust, select the window either left or right then the button will light up. You can then adjust the mirrors with the arrows according to the position you want. Make sure to press save on the touchscreen when you&#8217;re happy with the position.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The latest Model S in 2023 allows you to adjust the side view mirrors by going to controls in your touchscreen, then selecting mirrors. You can then adjust the position with the left scroll button on your wheel like the Model Y and Model 3.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As with the Model 3 &amp; Y, the driver&#8217;s side mirror automatically dims at night. You can control this option via the touchscreen by going into controls, mirrors, and auto-dim.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To adjust the mirrors on the Model X follow the same steps for the Model 3 &amp; Y.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Tesla includes heated mirrors on all its models, this was made a standard inclusion on the Model X and S from 2018.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Since 2020 the Model 3 and Y also include this as a standard, before it was part of the add on premium package. These heated mirrors defrost to improve vision in the colder months.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How Do You Adjust Folding Mirrors On Tesla?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are a few different folding options available for all Tesla models when it comes to mirrors.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can fold or unfold your mirrors in tight spaces by going to the controls on your touchscreen. Then select fold/unfold mirrors. Mirrors will unfold when you&#8217;re driving faster than 31 mph.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Adjust-Folding-Mirrors-On-Tesla.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2495" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Adjust-Folding-Mirrors-On-Tesla.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Adjust-Folding-Mirrors-On-Tesla-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Adjust-Folding-Mirrors-On-Tesla-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Adjust-Folding-Mirrors-On-Tesla-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There&#8217;s also an option to set your mirrors to fold/unfold automatically via controls, mirrors, and mirrors auto fold. You can override this automatic function by pushing or pulling the mirrors manually.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How To Set Folding Mirrors At Location</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To set your mirrors to fold/unfold via location, drive to the location then fold your mirror and press &#8216;save location&#8217;. You can also go to your mirror controls and press &#8216;always fold mirrors at this location&#8217;.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Folding-Mirrors-At-Location.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2496" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Folding-Mirrors-At-Location.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Folding-Mirrors-At-Location-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Folding-Mirrors-At-Location-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Folding-Mirrors-At-Location-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Make sure you&#8217;re stopped or driving at a speed of less than 3 mph for this setting to work.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Your mirrors will automatically fold/unfold when you are within 7.5 meters of the specified location. There&#8217;s also an option to set it with your HomeLink.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Tilting The Mirrors</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The mirrors on all Tesla models have an option called &#8216;auto tilt&#8217;, which tilts the mirrors downwards when reversing.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can adjust the positions of the mirrors when you&#8217;re in reverse. After this, they will automatically tilt to this position when you reverse.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/set-Tilting-The-Mirrors.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2498" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/set-Tilting-The-Mirrors.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/set-Tilting-The-Mirrors-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/set-Tilting-The-Mirrors-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/set-Tilting-The-Mirrors-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you want to turn off auto tilt, then go to controls, mirrors, and press mirror auto tilt off.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How Do You Adjust The Rear View Mirror In Your Tesla?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The rearview mirror adjusts manually in all Tesla models. In drive or neutral, the mirror will automatically dim at night or in low-light conditions.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How Do You Use The Vanity Mirror In Your Tesla?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To find the vanity mirror in your Tesla, go to your sun visor and fold it downwards. Use the tab to reveal the mirror and it will automatically illuminate. When you close the mirror, the light will turn off.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Our Verdict</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Adjusting the mirrors in your Tesla is simple via the scroll buttons on the wheel or buttons on your car door depending on your model.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You always have the option to change when your mirrors unfold/fold. You can change them manually when needed like a regular car too.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Knowing how to open, close, and adjust the liftgate on a Tesla Model Y might be simple than you imagine. There are many different ways to control the Tesla trunk to make sure you get the most convenience out of it.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After reading this article, you&#8217;ll know all the tips and tricks to get the most out of your Tesla Model Y liftgate.</p>

<div class="wp-block-ideabox-toc ib-block-toc" data-anchors='h2' data-collapsable='true' data-offset='150' ><div class="ib-toc-container ib-toc-list-style-bullets ib-toc-hierarchical ib-toc-expanded"><div class="ib-toc-header"><div class="ib-toc-header-title">Table of Contents</div><div class="ib-toc-header-right"><span class="ib-toc-icon-collapse"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-up-alt2"></span></span><span class="ib-toc-icon-expand"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-down-alt2"></span></span></div></div><div class="ib-toc-separator" style="height:2px"></div><div class="ib-toc-body"><ul class="ib-toc-anchors"></ul></div></div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How To Open Tesla Trunk</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As a result of the sleek and minimalist Tesla design, the buttons and levers to open the trunk that you might be accustomed to from older cars don&#8217;t exist on Teslas. Instead, there are a variety of electronic controls and buttons you can use, which are almost always located somewhere nearby.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Touchscreen</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/open-tesla-turnk-by-Touchscreen.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2476" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/open-tesla-turnk-by-Touchscreen.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/open-tesla-turnk-by-Touchscreen-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/open-tesla-turnk-by-Touchscreen-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/open-tesla-turnk-by-Touchscreen-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When you&#8217;re seated in the car, the touchscreen offers one of the quickest and easiest ways to open the Tesla trunk. When you put the car in park, you&#8217;ll notice an overhead view of your vehicle on the touchscreen. Simply click the &#8216;Open&#8217; button near the trunk.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can also navigate to the &#8216;Controls&#8217; section within your touchscreen to open the trunk.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">App</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another way you should learn how to open your Tesla trunk is through the Tesla app. Just open the app, go to &#8216;Controls&#8217;, then click the &#8216;Open&#8217; button hovering over the trunk. This will open your tailgate from anywhere.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/open-tesla-turnk-by-app.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2477" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/open-tesla-turnk-by-app.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/open-tesla-turnk-by-app-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/open-tesla-turnk-by-app-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/open-tesla-turnk-by-app-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The trunk controls aren&#8217;t as quick as the frunk (front trunk) controls within the app. But since there are so many ways to open the trunk, this shouldn&#8217;t be too big of an issue. At the very least, the physical button on the trunk makes it much easier to open than the frunk, which lacks a button.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Key Fob</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The key fob is also capable of opening the Tesla Model Y tailgate. You just click the button over the trunk side of the key fob twice and it will open. The same double-click will close the trunk.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The thicker side of the key fob is the end with your trunk controls. The other end has the logo and is supposed to be the front of the car. If you look at the key fob from the side, you can see how it mimics the design of the vehicle with a larger trunk and smaller front end.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Voice Command</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When your hands are full, you can also use the Tesla voice commands to open the trunk. Click the right scroll wheel on your steering wheel or the microphone button on your touchscreen, which will allow you to use voice commands. Say &#8220;Open the trunk&#8221; and it will pop right open.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Other voice commands include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Turn on/off wipers</li>

<li>Lock/unlock doors</li>

<li>Show nearby Supercharges</li>
</ul>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Buttons on the Trunk</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You might be pleased to know that you can still open the trunk with physical buttons. You&#8217;ll find the button hidden just under the Tesla logo. It is above the license plate and located on the underside of the overhanging trim piece, in the same spot many cars place the button to lift the tailgate. The button is covered with a little piece of rubber.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Press this button and your Tesla tailgate will open. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Press-Buttons-Tesla-Trunk.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2484" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Press-Buttons-Tesla-Trunk.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Press-Buttons-Tesla-Trunk-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Press-Buttons-Tesla-Trunk-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Press-Buttons-Tesla-Trunk-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How To Close the Tesla Trunk</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Closing a Tesla trunk is just as easy as opening it. Every way listed above for how to open the Tesla trunk can also close it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Whether you&#8217;re using the touchscreen or app, the button that says, &#8216;Open&#8217; will switch to say &#8216;Close&#8217; if the trunk is open. Just press that same button to close it. If it still says &#8216;Open&#8217; that means the trunk is closed.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can use the same double-click on the key fob to close the trunk, as well as the voice command &#8216;Close trunk&#8217; to shut it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The physical button is a slightly different process for closing than it is to open. Since the exterior one is out of reach, there is another button to close the Tesla trunk.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/close-tesla-trunk-button.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2485" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/close-tesla-trunk-button.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/close-tesla-trunk-button-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/close-tesla-trunk-button-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/close-tesla-trunk-button-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is located on the bottom side of the trunk itself, just to the right of the latch. When the trunk is open, press this button to close it. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And if the button is too high, keep reading to find out how you can lower the liftgate height to a level that meets your needs.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How To Adjust Liftgate Opening Height</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you want your Tesla Model Y liftgate to not open as much, you can adjust the height. It only takes seconds to do. This can be helpful to stop your tailgate from opening into your garage door and it can help keep the close button within reach.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here is how to adjust the liftgate opening height for a Tesla:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Tesla Model Y Auto Trunk Height Adjustment Tutorial" width="870" height="489" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/EsP9dNPFScY?start=24&#038;feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li>Open the tailgate</li>

<li>Manually push the tailgate down to the desired level</li>

<li>Press and hold the close button on the tailgate for about three seconds, until you hear a beep</li>

<li>Test the new setting by closing and opening the trunk</li>

<li>It should now stop at the height it was at when you pressed the button and heard the beep</li>
</ol>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is a quick and easy way to adjust the tailgate height. And you can manually adjust the height when it is open without damaging the components. It can be difficult to stop it from opening all the way manually, however. So wait until it is fully open, then adjust as needed.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Our Verdict</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can open your Tesla trunk through just about any method you interact with your car. It’s in the touchscreen, on the app, and yes, this Tesla function still has physical buttons.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you&#8217;re looking for adventure, this Tesla camping guide will help lead the way. We&#8217;ll review what makes Teslas great camping cars, how to use their built-in camping functions, and your sleeping options. You&#8217;ll also get expert camping tips on how to camp with your Tesla while avoiding problems.</p>

<div class="wp-block-ideabox-toc ib-block-toc" data-anchors='h2' data-collapsable='true' data-offset='150' ><div class="ib-toc-container ib-toc-list-style-bullets ib-toc-hierarchical ib-toc-expanded"><div class="ib-toc-header"><div class="ib-toc-header-title">Table of Contents</div><div class="ib-toc-header-right"><span class="ib-toc-icon-collapse"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-up-alt2"></span></span><span class="ib-toc-icon-expand"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-down-alt2"></span></span></div></div><div class="ib-toc-separator" style="height:2px"></div><div class="ib-toc-body"><ul class="ib-toc-anchors"></ul></div></div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why Choosing a Tesla for Camping Is a Good Idea</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you&#8217;re a Tesla owner, you might be wonder how useful your Tesla is away from town. And the truth is that as long as you understand the limitations, it is an amazing camping vehicle because Teslas have:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Ample storage space:</strong> Spacious trunk in the back and extra space in the frunk (front trunk), plus you can add on roof racks or hitch-mounted storage.</li>

<li><strong>Exceptional capabilities:</strong> Any Tesla with all-wheel drive will do exceptionally well on slick surfaces. Model Y and Model X SUVs both have substantial ground clearance as well.</li>

<li><strong>Sufficient range:</strong> Many Tesla single-charge ranges are longer than the fuel tank of ICE vehicles. And if you need to go longer, swing by a Supercharger on the way or stay at a campground with hookups (make sure they allow EV charging first).</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Tesla cars are equipped with extra amenities that can make your camping trip even more comfortable. You can charge your 3C products, such as your phone, camera, or even laptop. USB light strips and portable speakers can be great for camping too.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Unlike a combustion engine&#8217;s battery, Tesla batteries have plenty of power for any small device. You don&#8217;t need a generator or solar power battery bank unless you have other particularly power-intensive needs, like a camping air conditioner.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another feature is your touchscreen&#8217;s entertainment. If you are camping in an area where the vehicle has a network connection, you can head inside your car after the campfire is out for evening entertainment. Watch Netflix, browse YouTube, and play arcade games.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Camping Functional Equipment in the Car</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another incredibly useful Tesla feature available in all recent Tesla models is the <a href="https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/modely/en_us/GUID-4F3599A1-20D9-4A49-B4A0-5261F957C096.html#CONCEPT_RZC_VJY_RRB" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">Camp Mode</a>. This keeps the USB and low-voltage outlets powered on, while also allowing for climate control usage. It&#8217;ll keep you warm or cool while camping in cold or warm weather with your Tesla.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here is how to turn on Camp Mode:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/camping-mode-in-esla.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2474" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/camping-mode-in-esla.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/camping-mode-in-esla-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/camping-mode-in-esla-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/camping-mode-in-esla-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li>Put your Model Y in Park</li>

<li>If you want, turn the climate settings to your desired level</li>

<li>On the climate controls screen, touch Camp</li>
</ol>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can also turn it on from the app or by swiping up from the gray bar on the Climate control screen.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Camp mode uses the most power to run the air conditioner or heater. Most of the time, you&#8217;ll find it will use about 1-2% of the battery per hour, or around 10-20% overnight. If the outdoor temperature is especially cold or hot, the consumption rate can be even higher.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It also won&#8217;t work if your battery level is too low. You must be at a 20% charge to enable Camp Mode. This helps reserve power so you can drive to a charging station.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You might be tempted to turn on <a href="https://teslashooters.com/sentry-mode-guide/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sentry Mode</a> or your alarm while sleeping in your Tesla for added security. But you don&#8217;t want to do that. You&#8217;ll likely wake up to Panic Mode with your alarm and stereo blasting as your car thinks there is an intruder. You&#8217;ll quickly become the least favorite camper in the area.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Instead, just manually lock your Tesla while sleeping. This keeps others out while avoiding embarrassing and annoying alarms in the middle of the night.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How To Sleep With Your Tesla</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A big part of camping is figuring out your place to sleep. You have three options: in the car, on the roof, or with a camper trailer.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Sleeping in Car</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The easiest and cheapest way to camp with your Tesla Model Y is to sleep inside of it. By folding down the rear seats, you create a nice, flat area that is big enough for one to two people to sleep in.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It may not be the most spacious, but you can get a comfortable mattress to put down first. This lets you stay inside the vehicle, sleep with Camp Mode&#8217;s climate control, and enjoy the touchscreen entertainment.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=520Rt7eNPAE">put down your back seats</a>, just pull on the small level by the shoulder on each side of the seats. One folds down two-thirds of the rear seating area and the other button folds down the remaining seat.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Pros</h4>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Don&#8217;t have to buy a lot of camping equipment</li>

<li>Can use Camp Mode climate control</li>

<li>Plenty of space to put in a small mattress</li>
</ul>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Cons</h4>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Less room than other camping options</li>

<li>Need to store your camping gear elsewhere overnight</li>
</ul>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Sleep on the Roof</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Roof-top tents have become widely popular in the camping world. And you can use one with a Tesla Model Y.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Tesla Model Y Camping Setup - Moab Utah" width="870" height="489" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/19XxkVkN7XQ?start=6&#038;feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A major advantage of rooftop tents is that they provide a completely flat and spacious tent sleeping area wherever you can park on a level surface. You don&#8217;t have to worry about rocks, tree roots, or crawling critters. Just park, lift your tent into place and throw in your sleeping bag and pillows.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">They&#8217;re also generally more spacious than the inside of the vehicle, plus they give you a lot of ventilation and better views. But controlling the climate inside of a tent is difficult.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Pros</h4>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>More Spacious</li>

<li>Extra ventilation and better views</li>

<li>Can use the inside of the car to store gear</li>
</ul>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Cons</h4>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>No climate control or touchscreen entertainment</li>

<li>Not great for windy or rainy weather</li>
</ul>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Sleep in a Trailer</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If these options sound too small, then a small camper trailer might be the best option for you. While they&#8217;re a more sizable investment, you can camp with a lot more amenities and comfort. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Depending on the camper you get, you can have a large bed, dining area, kitchen, and even bathroom.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">They can be a lot of maintenance and towing will deplete your battery much faster. You’ll probably only get around half the range, depending on the weight of your trailer. But they’ll make camping much easier for the whole family.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You&#8217;ll need to have the Tesla Model Y <a href="https://teslashooters.com/tesla-towing-capacity/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tow Package</a>, which is capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds. This is enough for many small pop-up or teardrop-style camper trailers, but not for larger campers.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Pros</h4>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Packed with amenities</li>

<li>Potential for running water and bathroom facilities</li>

<li>Can accommodate more people</li>
</ul>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Cons</h4>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Towing will limit the battery range</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Tips for Great Tesla Camping</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Taking your Tesla camping can be an excellent way to create memories and enjoy outdoor adventures. But you need to take some specific precautions to make sure you avoid problems.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Since many camping areas are in remote locations, you&#8217;ll want to consider your battery range and charging situation. It might be possible to plan out a route that brings you to a Supercharger close to your campsite. Or you may stay close enough to your home that charging is not necessary.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you plan on using Camp Mode, make sure to plan for 10-20% of your battery charge to be depleted each night.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Many campgrounds offer electrical outlets at the campsites. But not all of them allow for EV charging since it&#8217;s so intensive. Call ahead to find out the campground&#8217;s policy. And make sure you bring the appropriate charging adapter. Some campgrounds offer 50 amp outlets that can be great for charging a Tesla. Others have dedicated EV charging stations.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can bring a mattress for the rear area along with a couple of pillows and sleeping bags to make things easy. It&#8217;s always better to have more blankets than you need instead of not enough.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You should also figure out what you&#8217;re going to do for food and water. Pack a cooler tight and bring plenty of drinking water. You also may need things like a stove, kitchen plates and utensils, and other basics. Many campgrounds have picnic tables, but you may want your own table and chairs too.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Planning out your bathroom situation is crucial as well. Most campgrounds have facilities, but you can also bring a small toilet if you’d like to go dispersed or wild camping.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Finally, don&#8217;t forget to bring things to have fun. A small bundle of wood for a fire, s’mores supplies, flashlights, and games are all good ideas. You might want to bring hiking or biking gear too.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Your Tesla can calculate a Safety Score based on your driving habits, but sometimes the Tesla Safety Score is not showing up where you&#8217;d expect it. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In this article, we&#8217;ll review why the Safety Score doesn&#8217;t show up and a variety of ways you can fix this.</p>

<div class="wp-block-ideabox-toc ib-block-toc" data-anchors='h2,h3' data-collapsable='true' data-offset='150' ><div class="ib-toc-container ib-toc-list-style-bullets ib-toc-hierarchical ib-toc-expanded"><div class="ib-toc-header"><div class="ib-toc-header-title">Table of Contents</div><div class="ib-toc-header-right"><span class="ib-toc-icon-collapse"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-up-alt2"></span></span><span class="ib-toc-icon-expand"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-down-alt2"></span></span></div></div><div class="ib-toc-separator" style="height:2px"></div><div class="ib-toc-body"><ul class="ib-toc-anchors"></ul></div></div></div>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why Is the Safety Score Not Showing Up</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are a few reasons your Tesla Safety Score isn&#8217;t showing up. They usually have to do with a software issue or your car&#8217;s connection. It also won&#8217;t show up if you haven&#8217;t driven your car or if you are not logged in under the primary owner&#8217;s account.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You should be able to see the Safety Score in your Tesla app if:</p>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li>You have software 2023.2.12 or are enrolled in FSD Beta version 11.3 or higher.</li>

<li>Your vehicle has a network connection (cellular or WiFi).</li>

<li>You have driven at least 0.1 miles.</li>
</ol>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How To Fix Tesla Safety Score Not Showing</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are many ways to fix the Tesla Safety Score not showing up issues. Let&#8217;s go through these in detail.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Uninstall and Install the App</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The first place to start is with your Tesla App. Sometimes it has problems updating automatically or can get a bug that isn&#8217;t easily resolved. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To fix this, uninstall and reinstall the Tesla App on your phone. It should only take a few minutes and is nearly guaranteed to get you on the latest app version.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Sign Out and In</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another way to fix the Safety Score not showing up in your Tesla App is to sign out and sign back in. You’ll need to know your username and password for the Tesla account.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Safety Score is only visible to the primary owner of the Tesla. So if you want to see the score, the App must use their login credentials. Perhaps someday Tesla will make this available to other non-primary drivers, but not yet.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Restart Your Mobile</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One last cell phone related resolution is to restart your phone. Like the app, phones can have general software issues that are easily fixed by a quick restart. This is the tried-and-true IT fix for a good reason on many different devices, from phones to computers.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You don&#8217;t need to do a factory reset or reset your settings. Simply turn off your phone and turn it back on. Then check your Tesla App to see if the Safety Score is visible.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Drive a Few Miles</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Since the Safety Score is based on your driving habits, you need to drive the vehicle before it will show up. Your Tesla must be driven at least 0.1 miles (0.16 km) before it&#8217;s visible in the Tesla App.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You also may have to wait for the App to show the Safety Score after you’ve first driven the car. It might show up almost immediately, or there might be a delay before it appears. If it doesn&#8217;t show up after driving it for the first time, try the above methods of restarting your phone or reinstalling the app.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Reset the Safety Score</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Tesla created the Safety Score to get a reliable analysis of your driving habits, which can sometimes be used for insurance purposes. Because of this, they don&#8217;t design it to easily reset. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">However, some people have had success resetting their Safety Score by opting out of the program for a short time and then opting back in. Another way to do this is by unsubscribing from the <a href="https://teslashooters.com/tesla-ap-and-fsd/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Full Self-Driving</a> (FSD) feature and re-enrolling.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These have mixed reports with some people being able to quickly reset their Safety Score and others not having as much luck.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Keep the Latest Version of the App</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another software issue can be caused by using outdated App versions. Make sure your phone regularly checks for a Tesla App upgrade. If you don&#8217;t let it do so automatically, then it&#8217;s important to check it manually. The new updates can cause significant changes to the way the Tesla App performs.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Make Sure Connected and Stable Cellular Network</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Safety Score relies on your car having a network connection so it can upload your driving habits and history for analysis. Only after it has successfully uploaded your driving data will a Safety Score be available.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you drive in an area without a stable cellular network connection, you might have issues with your Safety Score. You might get around this by parking near a WiFi network and <a href="https://teslashooters.com/tesla-wifi/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">connecting your Tesla</a> to it.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Full Self-Driving Software Update</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Safety Score uses some of the Full Self-Driving (FSD) sensors and equipment as part of its calculation. So an important part of your Safety Score is to keep the Tesla vehicles and the FSD software up to date.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can check your software version and see if an <a href="https://teslashooters.com/tesla-software-update/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">update is available</a> by ensuring a reliable WiFi connection, then touch &#8220;Software&#8221; on your Tesla&#8217;s touchscreen. It should prompt you to update if one is available.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Where To See Tesla Safety Score</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Tesla Safety Score should be visible in your Tesla App. To see it, follow these steps:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Open the Tesla App with the primary owner logged in</li>

<li>Tap Security</li>

<li>Look for the Safety Score</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here is a YouTube video showing a few more details on how to see the Tesla Safety Score.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="How to get the SAFETY SCORE page in your tesla app" width="870" height="489" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8LCRx8rc1Nc?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Our Verdict</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If your Tesla Safety Score isn&#8217;t visible in your Tesla App, make sure your car has the latest software and your Tesla app is updated. You&#8217;ll also need to drive your vehicle first and have a stable internet connection.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Teslas don’t need a lot of maintenance which is one of the advantages of buying an electric car. However, they still need coolant.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Tesla requires a special coolant to regulate the temperature of the battery and electronics in the car.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In our guide below, we will discuss which coolant exactly Tesla models use as well as how to service and fix any coolant issues you might have with your car.</p>

<div class="wp-block-ideabox-toc ib-block-toc" data-anchors='h2' data-collapsable='true' data-offset='150' ><div class="ib-toc-container ib-toc-list-style-bullets ib-toc-hierarchical ib-toc-expanded"><div class="ib-toc-header"><div class="ib-toc-header-title">Table of Contents</div><div class="ib-toc-header-right"><span class="ib-toc-icon-collapse"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-up-alt2"></span></span><span class="ib-toc-icon-expand"><span class="dashicon dashicons dashicons-arrow-down-alt2"></span></span></div></div><div class="ib-toc-separator" style="height:2px"></div><div class="ib-toc-body"><ul class="ib-toc-anchors"></ul></div></div></div>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Does a Tesla Need Coolant?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Tesla cars need coolant because it keeps the battery and electronics cool inside. The coolant Tesla uses is a specific kind that doesn&#8217;t need to be changed regularly.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Apart from keeping the car cool, Tesla needs coolant to increase the battery lifespan, stop breakdowns, and protect the car from electronic failure.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Do All Tesla Models Need Coolant?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Every Tesla model needs coolant to protect the battery. The type of coolant needed differs from model to model.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Tesla models 3, X, and S use a type of coolant called the G-48 ethylene-glycol coolant (HOAT) fluid.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Tesla Model Y uses the blue G-48 coolant or the orange-red HTF-LS coolant. This changes according to the manufacturing date of the car.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Model Y has different thermal requirements to the other models. Therefore, a different coolant is needed.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why Does a Tesla Need Coolant?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Without coolant, the battery inside your Tesla could overheat and cause electronic failure in the car. It could lead to a shortened battery life or other battery issues.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In the colder months, water in the Tesla cooling system could also freeze without coolant.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">When Do You Replace Tesla’s Coolant?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Under most circumstances, Tesla states that you don&#8217;t need to replace your coolant ever, it should last a lifetime.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">However, they recommend it&#8217;s a good idea to get your coolant level checked via a Tesla professional at least once a year. You can also check the coolant level each month to ensure its levels are right.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Can I Replace The Coolant Myself?</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Tesla does not recommend changing the Tesla coolant yourself, it should only be done at a professional service center. Changing the coolant yourself could potentially void the warranty of the car.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Most of the time, the coolant chamber is sealed, so you wouldn&#8217;t be able to access it without specialist equipment.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The coolant in a Tesla will not need to be changed. If levels are low then it&#8217;s best to contact Tesla for them to service the car.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Replacing The Coolant Via Tesla Service</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The best way to get your coolant replaced is via Tesla themselves. Tesla will typically flush and change the coolant in your car every 4 years or every 50,000 miles when a service is due.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Tesla uses their special coolant as we mentioned above.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To book a Tesla service, call your local service center. The first four years or 50,000 miles of your Tesla ownership will be covered by warranty for this service. After this, prices vary according to what you need changing or repairing.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why Is My Tesla Coolant Leaking?</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1025" height="492" src="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Why-your-Tesla-Coolant-Leaking.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2424" srcset="https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Why-your-Tesla-Coolant-Leaking.jpg 1025w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Why-your-Tesla-Coolant-Leaking-600x288.jpg 600w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Why-your-Tesla-Coolant-Leaking-300x144.jpg 300w, https://teslashooters.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Why-your-Tesla-Coolant-Leaking-768x369.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Your Tesla&#8217;s coolant may leak over time. This could be because of many reasons such as impact, worn components, or overheating.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The Reason Why Your Tesla Coolant Is Leaking</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A lot of people mistake a coolant leak for the air conditioning water on a Tesla. Tesla has designed the excess water from the air conditioning to drain under the car. This can make it look like a coolant leak.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If the liquid is a blueish color, then it is coolant. The most common cause for a leaking hose or gasket is that it gets worn down over time or may become damaged via impact. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It&#8217;s also possible that your Tesla has overheated therefore too much pressure inside the cooling system has caused a leak.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The Harmful Consequences Of a Tesla Coolant Leak</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you&#8217;ve got a coolant leak from impact, you may have to replace the whole battery in your Tesla. This can be expensive unless you have insurance.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Trying to drive your Tesla with a low coolant level can cause the battery pack to overheat. This is very dangerous and will degrade your Tesla&#8217;s performance.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Take your Tesla to be fixed as soon as possible when there is a coolant leak.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How To Fix a Tesla Coolant Leak</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The best way to fix a Tesla coolant leak is by getting it serviced. Till you get your Tesla to the service center, you can attempt to put rescue tape on a leak or fill the coolant level.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This can void your warranty if you fill the car with the wrong coolant and even damage it. Proceed with caution!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We&#8217;ve listed some steps below to help you check the coolant level in your car so you can fill it till you get your Tesla coolant leak fixed.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Tesla Model 3 - Coolant Testing" width="870" height="489" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/HlvvmS53Q6o?start=32&#038;feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li>Open up the frunk of your Tesla, then pull up the maintenance cover.</li>

<li>Remove the vents to gain access to the coolant reservoir. Most of the time, the color of your coolant will be blue, it has an artificial sweet smell.</li>
