If you’ve ever wondered to get your brake calipers more colorful and exciting but didn’t know where to start, we’re here to help.

Below are ways to get your brake caliper colorful.

Paint

The first thing you need is painting to coat your calipers. Take G2160 as an example, but any high-temperature caliper paint will do the trick. Before you begin, be sure to read and follow all of the instructions on the can.

Some paints will require you to sand down your rusted parts for them to get a clean surface for painting, while others don’t require it due to their self-etching formula.

How To Paint Your Brake Caliper?

Step 1: Remove the wheels from your car, jack up the vehicle and support it properly.

It’s a good idea to let your calipers cool down for about an hour or so before you start this project if you’ve just finished driving.

Step 2: Prepare the calipers for painting. It’s a good idea to wear gloves during this process because brake paint is hard to get off the skin.

Step 3: Spray the aerosol brake cleaner on the caliper, then use a clean cloth (like an old t-shirt) and rub it down. If you still see grime after doing this, use some metal polish and get out any built-up dirt.

Step 4: Prepare paint as per can instructions. Apply 2 thin coats of paint, allow the first light coat to dry, and apply a second coat in a well-ventilated area (outdoors is optimal).

Step 5: The G2 High-Temperature Brake Caliper Paint System Set includes two cans of G2160, which is the self-etching brake paint we’re going to use. You’ll apply these two coats of paint to your calipers.

Step 6: Apply a coat of additional paint so that you don’t have any bare metal when you’re finished with painting. Allow the coat to dry out overnight before driving around on it.

Brake Caliper Covers

Another great way to make your calipers more vibrant and colorful is to use a set of brake caliper covers. Many car enthusiasts have done this because it offers a simple, low-cost way to change the appearance of their brake system.

These covers generally work by shifting the paint on your caliper cover’s surface onto the surface of your caliper itself.

This can create a beautiful look. However, they do come with their fair share of problems, including small overspray particles that can accumulate on the back side of your brake pad or disc.

Are Brake Caliper Covers Safe?

Brake caliper covers typically offer a great deal of style. You’ll want to ensure you’re using the right products.

However, I don’t recommend you use caliper covers. Caliper covers may affect the normal heat dissipation of the calipers. There is a risk that the caliper cover may fall off or break during the driving process.

Use Rvinyl

Rvinyl is specifically designed for making your brake calipers colorfully attractive. You can use a heat gun to apply this Rvinyl covering to your brake calipers. And Rvinyl will withstand temperatures as high as 516 degrees Fahrenheit, so it’s not only flexible but also super durable.

How To Do It Use Rvinyl to Cover Brake Calipers

Step 1: Begin With Cleaning. Before applying your vinyl covering, you must ensure that your calipers are clean and free of dirt and grime.

You can use a cleaner specifically designed to remove brake dust. It’s the only way to make sure you’re starting with a clean surface. So grab your cleaner, apply it to your caliper and rub it in with a microfiber cloth.

Step 2: Apply Heat To The Vinyl Coating. Once you’ve cleaned your calipers, take them outside and apply the Rvinyl 3M Caliper Wrap. The vinyl wrap provides protection to your calipers at high temperatures without compromising the color.

You can design the placement of the vinyl  to ensure complete coverage with no edges showing

Tear off and gently wrap it around the surface of the brake caliper. Use a squeegee to remove wrinkles and air bubbles.

Because the brake caliper is uneven. Need heat gun aimed at the center of the caliper for proper adhesion of the vinyl to the surface. Heat the vinyl film with long strokes of your heat gun, constantly moving it back and forth.

Tips: Don’t apply too much heat at one time. Instead, dab on the Rvinyl with the heat gun until you see some of it start to become more flexible. You find that you can easy wrap the bend caliper. An alternative is a blow dryer set on high.

Step 3: Apply The Rvinyl As A Rubbery Layer. You will notice that the vinyl begins to feel rubbery after 30 minutes of applying heat. Using a soft, dry sponge or cloth, clean your caliper and let it sit for about 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 4: Leave The Calipers To Cool. Allow the Rvinyl to cool down for at least an hour.

This is how you can get your brake caliper colorful using Rvinyl. The process is quick and easy, so you can do it whenever you want.
